If you like John Harrison’s trademark line and wash style then come and join him in a workshop. The day will include demos, exercises, outdoor sketching, ink drawing and the application of washes to create a loose, lively painting of iconic Yorkshire Dales features.

Reference material, exercise handouts and watercolour paper are provided but please bring your own packed lunch, paints, pencils, pens and sketchbook. Refreshments with home baking will be available during the day.

Broadrake is in a stunning location and there is no shortage of subject matter – dry stone walls, barns, limestone outcrops, viaduct, trees and fellside slopes. The venue is upstairs in a recently converted barn.

John is Yorkshire born and bred, proud of his home county which provides the inspiration for much of his work. He specialises in line and wash, a style which superbly captures the beauty and atmosphere of Yorkshire’s landscape, towns and villages.

This two day workshop working with greenwood will give opportunity to get to grips with axe work and drawknife work on the shave horse making a stool and useful kitchen utensils.

You will learn how to use traditional greenwood methods to split/cleave logs using froes, axes, splitting chisels, mallets, shave horses and drawknives, planes and hand tools for finishing. Two days gives an opportunity learn some more skills on the shave horse to craft a spatula, or two or more! They will become your favourite kitchen utensil and also make a great gift! The stool legs will have time to dry out overnight with a more relaxed time to carry out the levelling and any final finishing the top surface of the stool.

There will be time to make a spatula, or two; they will become your favourite kitchen utensil! They also make a great gift.
