Guided Walk – South House, Sulber & Upper Pasture
An archaeological foray on the Ingleborough National Nature Reserve with Colin Newlands and Chris Bonsall, members of the Ingleborough Archaeology Group.
The walk is a moderate one of about 7km. Bring waterproofs and walking boots. Dogs should be kept under close control at all times.

A great opportunity to join Natural England and Ingleborough Archaeology Group to discover some of the many hidden archaeological and historical treasures on Ingleborough National Nature Reserve. Set in the heart of the famous Three Peaks area of the Yorkshire Dales National Park there will be a choice of two guided walks. One walk will head south from Ribblehead down Ribblesdale, through Colt Park towards Selside (8km/5 miles). The other will head south-west along Chapel-le-Dale to Southerscales (9km/5.5 miles). Both walks start and finish at Ribblehead Quarry.

Ingleborough NNR may be visited throughout the year, but for these archaeology walks on the 10th September 2017 pre-booking is required. Please note that because of the upland location both walks are weather dependant.

Access
Both walks are moderate difficulty over open fell and uneven ground but have no steep ascents or descents. The routes go through areas of limestone pavement, which becomes very slippery in wet weather. The walk along Chapel-le-Dale is boggy in places. Please wear appropriate outdoor clothing/footwear. Stout walking shoes/boots with a good grip are advised. Mobile phone coverage in the area is very patchy and should not be relied upon. The nearest public toilets are located in the main visitor car park in Ingleton.

Max 20 people per tour/session. Livestock, including cattle, may be present on the walk routes. Dogs must be kept under close control at all times. Please bring food and drink with you as refreshments will not be provided.
Directions
Meet at the entrance to Ingleborough National Nature Reserve at Ribblehead Quarry (SD7660 7886) at 1300 hours (1pm). There is limited car parking available close to the quarry entrance. Please do not block the gates into the quarry or the railway sidings as vehicle access may be required to these areas at any time. There is also lay-by parking at Ribblehead on the B6255 Ingleton-Hawes road. The nearest railway station is Ribblehead, a short walk from the NNR entrance. From the station walk down the access track to the B6255, turn left, walk under the railway bridge and turn first left again up the track running parallel with the railway line. The entrance to the NNR is on the right after 300m. Walks will return to Ribblehead Quarry by 1700 hours (5.00pm).
