Curlews
A very popular workshop for this iconic bird of the Yorkshire Dales, which breeds in the rough pasture around Broadrake. A framework is made for the body, and then random weaving is used, filling in the spaces with curves to outline the full body shape. The neck, head and beak positions can be adjusted to give each bird a unique pose. They look great staked into long meadow grasses but are equally at home inside on a small block.
Phil has been coming to Broadrake for a number of years now. He has a gentle, relaxed teaching style which always proves popular with students.
He lives in NW Cumbria where he grows his own sustainable willow for basket-making, garden structures and also bird sculptures, all popular workshop topics. There is a link to his website here.. The organic willow is included in the price and all the tools required will be provided.
