Understand how to developing a navigation strategy – Distance, Direction, Check Off and Overshoot. How to measure distances using, Timing and Pacing. How to use a compass – Map orientation, taking and walking a bearing. Understand the basics of following a bearing in poor visibility. Start to get to grips with contour recognition – Understanding the shape of the land. Basic routefinding skills and route planning – Using natural features, hazard avoidance.
