The Ingleborough Archaeology Group (IAG) is based in Ingleton and it has as its core area of operations the Ingleborough massif and surrounding valleys of Kingsdale, Chapel le Dale and Ribblesdale.
Founded in 1996 under the direction of Alan King, one of the most active archaeologists in the Yorkshire Dales, the IAG has been described as one of the most active and successful archaeology groups in the North of England.
The IAG exists to further research and understanding of the historic heritage of its core area by archival research and archaeological investigation. We meet the third Monday of every month, from January to April, and from September to December. These sessions are devoted to talks on local archaeology and history. In May, June and July we have walks and visits to local sites of interest.
Although the group members are on the whole keen amateurs and membership is open to all, we aim at a high professional standard in all our practical work.
Ordinary membership £12
Hands-on membership £22
Hands-on membership for those in full-time education £12
Ordinary membership is for those members who just want to attend the talks and walks. Hands-on membership is for those who wish to join in on any of our practical activities (eg excavations, surveys, documentary research).
