Ingleton makes a perfect base for a mountain biking holiday. The Pennine Bridleway, The Yorkshire Dales, Three Peaks, Gisburn Forest, The Howgills, The Lake District – could anywhere be better placed for English mountain biking ? All these are either cycling distance or a short drive away. We even have our own specialist bike shop at Escape Bikes who can provide great advice on local routes.
A good introduction to limestone biking is the Crummack Dale Dab which officially starts from Clapham (easily reached from Ingleton on a very quiet back road). MBR magazine featured it in its Britain’s Best Singletrack feature and said “Catering for all, a firm favourite of many and boasting numerous off-shoots and diversions, its the perfect introduction to the magic of the Yorkshire Dales”.
All Three Peaks have mountain bike rides associated with them
Tour of Ingleborough – 25 miles of good bridleways – can be ridden in most weather.
Tour of PenyGhent – a classic 19 miler
Tour of Whernside – best tackled in drier weather as can be boggy in parts
The Settle Loop, is very popular with locals, see a fab new video of this.
